Is it just me…

…or is lending books rather terrifying?

booksBooks are basically like children, you want to share them with the world and let other enjoy their company and stories but sooner or later you wonder when you’re getting them back. And for me, this problem is further compounded by the fact that as soon as I lend a book, it immediately becomes the one I want to read most. Don’t ask me why, I couldn’t even begin to explain.

I’ve had one really bad experience with lending but overall haven’t had many issues so why am I still so frightened of it? Why does it keep me up wondering if the other person had read it yet and if they are enjoying it and most importantly when I will be able to get it back?

Books are wonderful adventures and they are meant to be shared and yet so many of us book-lovers suffer from this anxiety. Especially if we are giving out copies that we hold dear or are absolute favorites.

So how can you overcome this?

I’m honestly not sure that you can. Except perhaps to continue lending out books, regardless of the fear, and waiting (somewhat) patiently for them to make their way back to you.
