Book Review: Blood Magick

Nora Roberts isn’t just about romance, she also does fantasy and this is power-packed ending to a great trilogy.

Not everyone realizes that Roberts isn’t just about the sappy love story, even if you know she also writes murder mysteries under the pseudonym “J.D. Robb”, you may not realize that she is even more talented than that.

This is the third book in the Cousins O’Dwyer series and it’s set in one of my favorite places in the world: Ireland. Each book is told from a different person’s perspective, something I first found in her Sign of the Seven series. It’s a great way to write because each character retains different insight and inner monologue.

For example, this one is all about Fin and Branna, the magic they each hold and what that means for their seriously flawed relationship. We all hoped and wished and dreamed and waited for that perfect moment we knew just had to happen. And I’m not just talking about vanquishing the ancient evil that is plaguing everyone in the family.

You know it has to have a happy ending but you aren’t sure what that will mean, what new information will come to light, what difficulties will be faced and that’s what keeps you reading. Sure, there is love, there is even some steamy sex, but there is also magic and the fight against evil.

I can’t say much more without giving away the entire series but if you want a nice thrill that will keep you turning pages and maybe a little too creeped out to sleep (maybe that’s just my overactive imagination) then pick up this series. This book is a little slower in action than the others but it’s also more heart-wrenching in the “feels”.
